AVENCREST BUYER GUIDE
Aircraft Inspection and Acquisition: The Process
A well-organised acquisition separates commercial interest from technical acceptance. The purpose of the process is to turn an attractive listing into a documented understanding of the specific aircraft and the proposed transaction.
Build a precise acquisition brief
Describe the mission, travelling party, essential cabin features and timeframe. Identify who will advise on operations and who will make the buying decision. Agree how model references, preliminary specifications and verified aircraft records will be distinguished. This reduces avoidable conversations about unsuitable candidates.
Review evidence before committing to travel
Request the actual specification, photographs and relevant record summaries. Arrange confidentiality through appropriate advisers where needed. A remote walkthrough can help you decide whether to view, but it does not replace records review or an independent inspection. Keep a list of discrepancies and unresolved questions.
Agree an inspection scope
Select appropriately qualified independent specialists and a suitable facility. Ask them to propose the inspection and records-review scope for that aircraft. The commercial agreement should address responsibilities and how findings will be handled; obtain legal advice on those provisions. Do not assume that a maintenance visit and a buyer’s inspection serve identical purposes.
Resolve findings in writing
Separate confirmed defects, recommended work, questions requiring more evidence and matters of preference. Reconcile any agreed work with the final documentation. Ask the relevant advisers to assess the implications rather than accepting a verbal assurance that an issue is minor. Maintain a dated record of decisions.
Prepare for closing and delivery
Use appropriate legal, tax, escrow and operational advice for the transaction. Verify payment instructions independently and complete the agreed acceptance and handover process. Ensure crew, insurance, management and maintenance arrangements are ready where required. This guide describes a process, not a guarantee of transaction timing or an offer of regulated professional advice.
