Private Jet Purchase Checklist
Before discussing a deposit or delivery date, establish what aircraft is being offered and what evidence supports its description. This checklist helps organise the conversation; it is not a substitute for legal, tax, technical or operational advice.
Establish the identity and authority to sell
Confirm the specific airframe and request the relevant identity and ownership records through your advisers. Establish who is selling, who is authorised to negotiate and how their authority will be checked. If details are released under confidentiality arrangements, agree that process rather than accepting a generic model sheet as proof of ownership.
Reconcile the specification
Obtain a dated specification covering year, hours, cycles, engines, equipment and cabin configuration. Compare it with photographs and records. Mark each field as confirmed, awaiting evidence or not applicable. Never assume that an item photographed in a manufacturer’s demonstrator is installed on the aircraft offered.
Review maintenance and inspection arrangements
Ask your independent technical adviser to define the records review and pre-purchase inspection scope. Establish the proposed facility, responsibilities, access and reporting process. Agree how findings will be assessed and how any rectification will be documented. Inspection depth should follow the aircraft and transaction, not a generic internet checklist.
Plan the transaction with qualified advisers
Appoint appropriate advisers to assess title, contracts, tax, registration, insurance and any cross-border requirements. Obtain independent advice on escrow and payment verification. Do not rely on banking instructions received through an unexpected message. Clarify the treatment of deposits, costs and cancellation in the actual agreement before paying.
Prepare for handover
Before accepting delivery, reconcile the agreed specification, documentation and rectification list. Confirm the operating and support arrangements required for your intended use. Keep the handover record and the final agreement together. A viewing, a brochure download or a preliminary discussion is not an assurance that these acquisition steps are complete.
