AVENCREST BUYER GUIDE

Private Jet Purchase Price vs Ownership Costs

The asking price is only one line in an aircraft ownership decision. A useful budget explains what you expect to fly, where the aircraft will be based and which costs are included. Without those assumptions, two attractive estimates may be impossible to compare.

Separate acquisition from operation

Create distinct sections for the aircraft purchase, transaction and inspection expenses, and the cost of operating after handover. Ask qualified advisers to assess any applicable taxes, registration or import issues for the proposed structure. Do not treat a website estimate as an individual tax conclusion.

Identify costs that continue without a flight

Request quotations for the arrangements you actually intend to use, including crew, training, hangar, insurance and management where relevant. Record the scope, term, exclusions and currency of each quote. A low utilisation year does not automatically remove those commitments.

Build trip costs around a real mission

Use your planned annual hours and representative trips when requesting operating estimates. Ask the provider to identify fuel assumptions, positioning, airport and handling costs, and any other variable charges. Avoid applying another owner’s hourly figure to an aircraft with a different base, route pattern or operating arrangement.

Treat maintenance separately and transparently

Ask your technical adviser to identify scheduled events and uncertainties from the actual records. Clarify programme coverage, parts, labour, travel and downtime. Labour-only support does not mean all maintenance is free. Compare the offered support terms with the aircraft’s maintenance requirements and identify who carries costs outside the agreed scope.

Use scenarios rather than a single promise

Compare low, expected and high utilisation cases using the same dated assumptions. Include sensitivity to fuel, exchange rates and unscheduled events where your advisers consider it appropriate. Do not assume resale proceeds or charter income. The result should be a decision tool that can be revised as evidence arrives, not a guaranteed operating cost.
